Looking For A New Stand Mixer? How To Choose

Posted on: 4 March 2019

If you have decided to invest in a stand mixer for your kitchen, you may find the options to be somewhat confusing. With so many different models and sizes on the market, how do you know which one is the best one for you? Luckily, there are a few things that you can consider to help you narrow down the right model. Here are a couple of the key considerations.

What Kind Of Baking Do You Do?

The first thing you need to think about is what kind of baking you typically do. That is a key factor in the type of mixer you need. If you are an occasional baker, perhaps baking once or twice a month, and only in small volumes, you only need a smaller unit. However, if you bake in larger volumes or you bake quite regularly, you'll need a larger mixer.

Additionally, for bakers that only make basic goods like pie crust and cookies, you may be able to work with a double-beater mixer. These aren't, however, as good for bakers that do larger volume work or make bread dough, because the double beaters don't get to the sides of the bowl. In those cases, you'll want one of the orbital styles with the large whisk beaters instead. Also, for bread bakers, you may want a dough hook to help you with kneading the dough as it mixes.

What Power Level Is Necessary?

Stand mixers are rated based on the motor's power. You need to think about the power level that you need when you are choosing a unit. For small batch and occasional baking, a low-powered unit should be sufficient. However, for big batches, dense cookie doughs, and bread, you'll need a mixer with a higher-power motor. Be careful about your selection, because taxing a lower-powered motor will just burn it out and leave you shopping for a new one all over again.

What Is Your Budget?

Once you know what type, size, and power rating you need in your mixer, it's time to start narrowing your field of options. To determine which mixers you can choose from, you have to know how much you actually have to spend. Look at your budget realistically and make sure that you can afford the size and type of mixer that you need, then select a model that fits that budget. If you can't afford the one you really need right now, consider waiting until you have enough to invest in it, because otherwise, you'll just have to buy a new one later.

Shopping For Those Who Hate Shopping

I really love shopping, and I really don't. I love finding fun things that can buy for myself or someone special in my life, but shopping can be a hassle when the stores can be so crowded and when it is difficult to find time to head to the store. But that's okay because I believe I have perfected the art of shopping with as little hassle as possible. My name is Julie Walters and I'm going to take you on a journey into the world of coupons, online retailing and the hunt for that obscure product that stores never seem to stock.
